WHAT IS THE KWAZULU NATAL CONSERVANCY ASSOCIATION? The Natal Conservancies Association (NCA) was formed in 1981 to provide a forum where member Conservancies could discuss matters of mutual interest, and would provide a body in the province of KwaZulu – Natal, that would represent the conservancy movement at provincial, local government and non governmental organisation talks. The NCA was formally constituted in 1987 and is administrated by an executive committee elected at the annual general meeting and is served by a part time secretary. The membership of the NCA is open to all Conservancies, including those situated outside the province. There is no obligation on the part of a registered conservancy to join the NCA.The NCA executive committee meets quarterly at the Queen Elizabeth Park office of the KwaZulu – Natal Conservation Service. The Association holds its annual general meeting in May of each year, at Queen Elizabeth Park.
HOW DO I GO ABOUT FORMING A CONSERVANCY? The KwaZulu – Natal Conservation Service has, in most areas, a staff member who is called a District Conservation Officer (DCO).Contact your DCO who has all the relevant information. (If you do not know who he/she is telephone the KwaZulu - Natal Conservation Service in Pietermaritzburg at Telephone number 033 845 1999 who will be able to give you the name, address and telephone number of the DCO for your area.)The DCO can make available to you a booklet “Guidelines for the Formation of a Conservancy”, and has a wealth of advice about where to start, how to draw up a constitution, ect.
